1) Adding a New Emergency Address Location
When setting up calling plans in Microsoft Teams, you need to assign an emergency location for each phone number or Teams user. In order to do this, you must first add a new emergency address by entering the location’s information.
In the Microsoft Teams Admin Center, adding an address is simple:
- In the left navigation, under the Locations drop-down, select Emergency addresses
- Click + Add
- Enter the location name or description
- Our example uses “Cayosoft HQ”)
- Select the location’s country
- Our example uses “United States”
- Begin typing in address
- Microsoft will help you search and validate
- Click on the location address when it populates under the search field
- Click save
And just like that, you have a new emergency address set up. Repeat this step to add all the locations you need to configure your Microsoft Teams Emergency Calling.
2) Request Phone Numbers
If this is the first time you are setting this up, you will need to request a set of available phone numbers from Microsoft.
Again, in the Microsoft Teams Admin Center:
- In the left navigation, under the Voice drop-down, select Phone numbers
- Click + Add
- Select the phone number’s location country
- Our example uses “United States”
- Select the phone number type
- Our example uses “User (subscriber)”
- Enter the quantity
- Begin typing in the city name associated with the location
- Microsoft will help you search
- Next to the location you wish to use, click select
- Select the area code from the drop down list of available area codes
- Continue to the next page
- Review the information presented for accuracy
- If accurate complete the order
3) Run Commands to Retrieve Code to Match Phone Numbers with the Locations
After the phone numbers are created, you can then use Powershell commands to pull the code Microsoft will use to match the phone numbers with the location. There are different commands depending on which module you are using.
- When using the Teams Powershell Module 1.1.6 (previous Skype Online), use the following commands:

A Few Additional Tips
Make sure the emergency address you set up is a physical address, where first responders could go in the event of an emergency, based on the number used to dial out.
There is a difference between location and emergency address. Emergency address is the physical street address, but the location may be a more specific designation, for example the first floor of that building. You can have emergency addresses with multiple locations in Microsoft Teams.
